The Monroe Doctrine

The monograph is devoted to the study of the origin and nature of the Monroe Doctrine (1823 r.), with the help of which the aggressive circles of the USA still seek to justify their expansionist policy towards the countries of the Western Hemisphere. The author revises the point of view established in bourgeois literature about the defensive and liberating character of the Monroe Doctrine at the time of its proclamation, due to the alleged threat of intervention of the Holy Alliance in Latin America, and provides facts confirming the absence of a real threat of such intervention. Thus, the author proves that the true content of the doctrine and the practice of its application at that time was determined primarily by the tendency of the U.S. ruling circles to expansion. The monograph makes extensive use of archival materials, published sources and literature and provides a rich bibliography.

The book is intended for a wide range of readers interested in the history and foreign policy of the United States, for teachers of higher and secondary schools' graduate students and undergraduates.
